Juneteenth knitting pattern

Description

A large, featherweight shawl in two sizes (petite/tall) that is worked from neck to hem in fine lace yarn. An allover pattern of showering buds gives way to a flounced hem of vines and leafy stems; the entire effect is reminiscent of a light-filled bougainvillea or wisteria bower. While visually complex, this project is composed largely of simple-to-work motifs using basic lace maneuvers. This shawl would be a lovely choice for a special wedding accessory that will be treasured later as a christening shawl for baby.

Yarn Suggestions:

Cormo Lace, Yak + Silk Lace, Fresh Lace, Kent Lace, Modern Deco Lace, or any fine, silky laceweight yarn with approximately 275 to 325 yards per ounce.

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size, drape, and yardage requirement.

Finished Size:

68(76) inches wide at top edge and 27(32) inches long at center back (stretched and blocked)

1100(1400) yards

Gauge:

30 sts and 44 rows = 4 inches in stockinette (unblocked)

Needles:

size 3US (3.25 mm) circular needle (or size to obtain correct gauge) and DPNs in same size for finishing
