Description
*This class fulfills the Fearless Finishing Requirement for WEKP.
Ifyou have knitted a sweater or two but still don’t feel in control of thefinishing process, this class is for you. Working on a baby sweater andswatches, you will conquer basic invisible seaming and (if time allows) move onto seaming ribbing and garter stitch. You will learn to pick up stitchesflawlessly, master the sloped bind-off, and use the 3-needle bind-off. You willlearn to make and space buttonholes, and to calculate short rows for a cuteshawl collar. Come join us and get rid of those finishing phobias!

Format: Virtual
Prerequisite: Knitting II, or equivalent.
Materials Required:
Atleast 450 yards of a superwash yarn that gives you a gauge of 4.5 sts / inchand makes a fabric you like.
SizeUS 7 needles (or size needed to obtain gauge of 4.5 sts and 6 rows = 1”)
SizeUS 5 circular needle, 24” length (or needle two sizes smaller than the one youused to get gauge)
Buttonsto be chosen with instructor’s guidance

HOMEWORK:
1)Knit and block a 6 x 6 stockinette swatch, changing needle size until youobtain the gauge you need for this project. Please measure and record yourswatch’s gauge before and after blocking.
2)Once you have received the class handout, review Before Class 1 (supplements),pages 2 and 3 of the handout. Please watch all of the videos linked on thesepages.
3)We will be using the smooth side of the long-tail cast-on as the right side ofour class sweater. (Note that these instructions are different from those inthe book!) a) For back, with smaller needles, CO 45. First row (WS), work P2,then K1 P1 rib, ending with K1, P2.
Secondrow (RS), work K2, then P1 K1 rib, ending with P1, K2. Work as above for oneinch, ending after a wrong side row. Place on a holder. b) For right and leftfronts, with smaller needles, CO 19. First row (WS), work P1, then K1, P1 rib,ending with P1. Second row (RS), work K1, P1 rib, ending with K1, for one inch,ending after a wrong side row. Note that this is different from the directionsin the book.
4)Cast on 25 stitches and start work on one swatch using any worsted-weight yarnof your choosing (scraps are fine, even recommended!), in stockinette, about aninch of knitting on the needles.
5)Read chapters 1-3 in Seven Things That Can “Make or Break” a Sweater. Also,read original baby sweater pattern, pp. 78–82
