Frosty Pines is worked flat (sideways), increasing along one edge to create an asymmetrical triangle. Stitches are increased in pattern and then onward into the 1×1 ribbing. The combination of lace patterns, garter stitch stripes and the sportive ribbing give this shawl a sophisticated, yet casual look.

Gauge:

16 sts x 30 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in lace pattern 1 and lace pattern 2 unblocked. 14.5 sts x 23 rows = 4″ (10 cm) square in lace pattern 1 and lace pattern 2 after blocking.

16 sts x 32 rows = 4″ (10 cm) square in garter stitch unblocked.

14.5 sts x 27 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in garter stitch after blocking. Gauge is not crucial for this project but will affect yardage and final size when different.
